Biography
Michel Daëron both writes and directs documentary films that canvas historical, social and geopolitical themes. The prevalence of such themes may be seen in his first film, April Moon Over Canala which recounts the lives of three Kanak freedom fighters from New Caledonia, and also in Moruroa the Big Secret which reveals the consequences of the French nuclear tests as of 1993 on the health of the Polynesians.
Drawing inspiration from Primo Levi’s grey zone concept, his work has also focused on the Second World War with The Shaved Women of the Liberation and more specifically on the topic of deportation in Contre-jour de Sibérie, Bach in Auschwitz and Atlantic Drift.
Once Upon an Island Diego Garcia and Unforgotten Islands narrate the recent deportation of an island people by the American and British governments, capturing glimpses of a ‘geopolitical’ grey zone that corrupts our modern day society.
In addition, Michel Daëron has collaborated with the journal Les Temps Modernes and Autrement.
A graduate of the Institute of Political Studies in Grenoble with a Bachelor of Economics, he also holds a Diploma of Cinematography from the Crear-Ceris Film School.
